The Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health (PORH), formed in 1991, is located at The Pennsylvania State University within the College of Health and Human Development’s Department of Health Policy and Administration. PORH also is affiliated with Penn State Outreach and Penn State Cooperative Extension and receives funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Bureau of Health Planning; the U.S Department of Health and Human Services’ Federal Office of Rural Health Policy; Penn State; and other external sources. One of 50 state offices of rural health in the nation, PORH is one of only nine university-based state offices of rural health. Regarding its' services, PORH provides an institutional framework that links small, rural communities with state and federal resources to help develop long-term solutions to rural health problems; PORH does this through education, outreach, advocacy, applied research and special programs/projects.
